Team

Two founding partners, five department heads, one recruiter for seven countries

AWAJ's leadership has been in place since the firm's early growth years. Department heads run architecture, structural, and MEP in-house; our People & Talent lead builds project teams across a genuinely international bench.

Leadership

Obaid Ghanim A. R. Al Mutaiwei
Obaid Ghanim A. R. Al Mutaiwei
Chairman & Managing Partner

Obaid is the owner and founder of the Al Mutaiwei group of companies, from a family among the first to settle Dubai. He trained as an engineer with the National Oil Company of Abu Dhabi before completing a British electrical engineering qualification, then reported on the emirate's early infrastructure projects directly to the Ruling family. Since the Dry Docks were completed in 1979, he has also chaired the Dubai Ship Docking Yard (Jadaf) facility.

Mangesh Shetye
Mangesh Shetye
Managing Director & Partner

One of AWAJ's earliest hires, Mangesh was promoted from Chief Architect to Managing Director after years of leading the firm's design output. He works firsthand with clients on initial concepts, then stays on through detailed design development to protect creative intent as materials and details are locked in. His portfolio spans campus master plans, university facilities, historic restoration and adaptive reuse, conference centers, city halls, and gated communities.

Engineering

Rohan Deshpande
Rohan Deshpande
Head of Structural Engineering

Rohan runs AWAJ's structural department, sizing everything from townhouse foundations to the long-span steel frames used in the firm's logistics and warehouse work. He has a particular interest in value engineering — finding the structural system that meets code and budget without a design compromise the client didn't ask for.

Bilal Ahmed Chaudhry
Bilal Ahmed Chaudhry
Head of MEP Engineering

Bilal leads electrical, mechanical, and public health design at AWAJ, with a focus on keeping MEP coordinated with architecture from the first design pass rather than reworked at tender stage. He has led fire and life safety design on several of the firm's large residential communities and pushes energy compliance well past the local code minimum where budgets allow.

Department Heads

Farah El-Sayed
Farah El-Sayed
Head of Architecture

Farah leads AWAJ's architectural studio, overseeing concept and detailed design across the firm's residential and institutional workload. She trained in Cairo before spending a decade in Dubai delivering master-planned residential communities, and now mentors the firm's mid-level architects through their first lead-designer roles.

Aisha Al Marzouqi
Aisha Al Marzouqi
Head of Master Planning

Aisha sets the land-use, density, and infrastructure framework for AWAJ's largest developments, including multi-phase residential communities delivered for Dubai's major asset managers. Emirati by background and trained in urban planning, she works closely with local authorities to keep master plans aligned with Dubai's evolving planning codes.

Imran Hossain
Imran Hossain
Head of Construction Supervision

Imran leads the site teams that keep AWAJ's design intent intact through construction — contract administration, quality inspection, and snagging on projects ranging from staff accommodation blocks to logistics facilities. He has spent most of his career on Dubai job sites and has little patience for a detail drawing that doesn't survive first contact with a contractor.

People & Talent

Noor Khalil
Noor Khalil
Head of People & Talent

Noor runs recruitment and people operations for a team that now spans seven countries, from graduate architects hired straight out of regional universities to senior engineers relocating to Dubai. She built AWAJ's current onboarding and mentorship structure after the firm's headcount grew more than 20% in a single year.
